Typographical Zine - Hermann Zapf
One of the projects that were presented to us during my HND course was to create a zine on a certain typography designer. This designer was randomly selected for the whole class and then we had to design an informative zine based on their type. I was given Hermann Zapf.

As I began this project, I did some minor research on Zapf and went straight to playing with zine layouts. One of the goals of this project was to create a unique fold style. After going through some random folds, I decided to go with the staired approach to the zine.
After this I did more research on Hermann Zapf where I discovered he created Dingbats which were the predecessor of the emojis of today. I decided to incorporate this into the design through hand dingbats.
This is the final document of the zine which I decided to print on A4 paper. I made several design choices during the design process.

Using A4 paper makes it the smallest size possible while still being consistently readable, this is an important choice to reduce waste. Another factor in the eco-friendly nature of the zine is to use recycled brown paper.

I also decided to incorporate the cursive fonts into the quote the Zapf said to introduce the zine. A keyboard of dingbats has also been added to show them what they are and have an interesting infographic to the end of the zine.
These are the final product shots of the folded zine.
